Computer Science department has an established track record in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Visual Computing, Image Processing, Big Data, Data Analytics, Internet of Things and Mobile Applications. Academic staff have been engaged in the delivery of cutting edge technology, advancing the state-of-the-art and delivering innovative computer systems for SMEs and large industries (e.g. ESA, NASA, NHS, Yorkshire Water, Cosmetics Europe, Jaguar Land Rover, Syngenta).
Our academic delivery is strongly connected with the research and knowledge transfer projects for smart cities, open data, engineering and medical data analytics and visualisation through the following research centres:
Advanced Automotive Analytics (AAA) Institute (https://www.bradford.ac.uk/research/rkt-centres/automotive-research-centre/research-groups/aaa/) is an interdisciplinary joint venture between researchers in Automotive Engineering and Computer Science, focused on research and development of data science methods and solutions to enhance vehicle reliability throughout the lifecycle – from design to service and reuse. AAA researchers are bringing together research expertise in data science, machine learning and data quality and representation, and long-standing knowledge, expertise and experience over a broad range of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering research topics with a focus in automotive healthcare, engineering, systems, and manufacturing. The members' research is applied to information representation and integration, data mining, knowledge discovery and data governance.
AI Research (AIRe) Group (https://www.brad.ac.uk/ei/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/research/artificial-intelligence/) is one of the largest in terms of academic staff and research students numbers in the University, and conducts research funded by RC-UK, I-UK and EC, as well as industry. The members' research is focused on machine learning, information representation and integration, data quality and mining, knowledge discovery with applications in data governance, health care, (privacy in) online social networks, product safety, decision support systems, operations research and education.
Visual Computing Research Group (https://www.brad.ac.uk/ei/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/research/visual-computing/) has extensive experience in the development of computer vision systems for processing multi wavelengths satellite images for solar/space imaging and remote sensing applications. Staff are also experienced in the development of on-line technologies and visualisation and super-resolution technologies.
Theory of Computation Research Unit (https://www.brad.ac.uk/ei/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/research/theory-of-computation/) contributes with expertise in applied mathematics, statistics, modelling, testing and verification, multi-agent systems and agent-based simulation, semantics web and ontologies.
We offer courses accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS), the Chartered Institute for IT promoting wider social and economic progress through the advancement of information technology science and practice. Employability is a key focus of the programme here at Bradford. We collaborate with industry partners through our Industry Advisory Board; their input shapes the curriculum, ensuring you gain the skills employers in this sector value and / or are in shortage. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute live to industry or research projects the module lecturers are leading. Our facilities are cutting-edge, and include specialised labs such as our new Internet of Things lab and our state-of-the-art Ethical Hacking lab. Our Computing Enterprise Centre offers students the opportunity to work on real-world projects using powerful hardware and industry standard software, under the supervision of subject experts.
The University is committed to helping students develop and enhance employability and this is an integral part of many programmes.
