Data is the key to success for many organisations and it should be gathered from and shared with all functions. This is what would happen in an ideal world. However traditional organisational structures and business lines often prevent this from happening with many managers finding it difficult to reconcile data governance with traditional business structures.
The term ‘DataOps’ is taken from Data Operations and it is the latest in agile operations methodology.

The terms DataOps, with the developing importance of data to the success of an organisation, is gaining popularity. Enterprises seek to make data seamless and continuously available, with faster initial delivery and rapid improvement cycles. It will soon be a recognised term and educators will be instructing students in DataOps processes that create this collaborative Data Management methodology.
As the definition goes “DataOps is an automated, process-oriented methodology, used by analytic and data teams, to improve the quality and reduce the cycle time of data analytics. Simply put, DevOps is a combination of software development and operations—and as its name suggests, it's a melding of these two disciplines in order to emphasize communication, collaboration, and cohesion between the traditionally separate developer and IT operations teams.
DevOps Software Development = Dev / Operations = Ops
A DevOps culture ensures that developers take into consideration how the application is run on hardware as much as the Operations people understand how the software is created (which language, framework, etc.)
Why? This result in fewer silos, minimal communication problems, lower costs and increases a company’s efficiency.
In conclusion both DevOps and DataOps are important to the success of a business, but DataOps is gaining traction due to the realisation that a company's data holds the key to so much competitive advantage. The future will see these disciplines, if not combine, communicate more and become mutually supportive.
